Ambala, April 7

To ensure proper cleaning of drains ahead of the rainy season, the Municipal Corporation, Ambala, is set to deploy a super sucker-cum-jetting machine in Ambala City.

A team of officials held a pre-dispatch inspection of the super sucker-cum-jetting machine at the manufacturing plant in Jaipur and the machine is expected to be delivered to the Municipal Corporation, Ambala, within a week. The machine is coming at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore.

An official in the Municipal Corporation said, “The corporation has procured a machine from Jaipur and is expected to receive the machine in a week. This state-of-the-art machine will play a crucial role in flood management, desilting and maintaining the stormwater drainage infrastructure in Ambala City. With its high-powered suction and jetting capabilities, it will effectively remove blockages, silt, and waste from drains, reducing the risk of waterlogging and urban flooding.”

Several localities witness severe waterlogging in Ambala City and Ambala Cantonment during the rainy season and cause inconvenience to commuters and residents.

Jagadhri gate, Hira Nagar, Nadi Mohalla, Model town, Ambika Mata temple, sector-9, Shukalkund road, clothes market, Nahan house, Nadi Mohalla, Puja Vihar, Moti Bagh, and Mahesh Nagar are some of the areas where heavy waterlogging is witnessed.

Meanwhile, another machine is likely to arrive for cleaning the drains of the Ambala Cantonment area later this month. “Given Ambala’s vulnerability to waterlogging during heavy rains, the introduction of these advanced equipment will significantly improve the twin city’s ability to prevent clogging, ensure smooth drainage flow and enhance overall sanitation.

The civic bodies remain committed to modernising its urban infrastructure and ensuring better public services for its residents, the official said. District Municipal Commissioner Sachin Gupta, said, “To ensure proper cleaning of the drains in Ambala City and Ambala Cantonment, it was decided to procure super sucker-cum-jetting machines. While the machine for Ambala City is likely to be received and deployed in a week, the tender of the machine for Ambala Cantonment will open soon and the machine is expected to be procured by April end. All efforts are being made by the civic bodies to ensure that the residents don’t face any inconvenience due to waterlogging during the rainy season. All major and minor drains will be cleared in time.”

“We have also asked the Public Health Engineering Department, Irrigation Department, National Highways Authority of India and also the Railways to get their major and minor drains cleared in time to ensure smooth flow of water. All departments concerned have also started their preparations”, he added.
