Dumper Crushes Traffic Cop To Death, Drags Body 50 Feet In Indore
Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A 23-year-old traffic constable was crushed to death on duty by a speeding dumper under Lasudia police station limits on Monday afternoon.
The incident took place around 12 noon when Akshay Sharma was on duty at Dewas Naka and was instructed to shift to Chandragupta Square to clear traffic congestion there.
While he was on his way to the new duty point, a speeding dumper (MP09NN7833) hit his bike from behind at Niranjanpur Square in Scheme No. 136. Even after that, the dumper driver allegedly did not stop and dragged Sharma along with his bike for about 50 feet.
The dumper’s rear wheel allegedly ran over the constable, killing him on the spot. The dumper allegedly stopped only after the bike got stuck in its front wheel after which, the driver fled the scene. The police have seized the vehicle. Traffic officials said there is a blind turn at the Niranjanpur Square. Sharma and his colleague Chain Singh were heading to the new duty point on separate motorcycles. Sharma slowed down at the turn, but the dumper driver allegedly did not do so, hitting the deceased’s bike at high speed. After the collision, Sharma lost his balance and fell even as the dumper continued to speed.
Engaged just two months ago
Shivpuri native Sharma was a part of the December 2022-23 police recruitment batch. He was staying in Bhagirathpura. He got engaged only two months ago and was preparing for the SSC CGL exam. There was a wedding in the family, and Sharma was set to proceed to Shivpuri on a 15-day leave beginning April 13. After that, he had planned a visit Khatushyam temple with his work friends. Sharma’s colleague Sachin Tomar said that since the constable died on duty, he should be accorded a martyr’s status.
Had given helmet for repair in morning
Sharma’s colleagues said that Ajay used to wear a helmet daily, but as his helmet had broken, he had given it for repair on Monday morning itself and the dumper ran over his head the same day, causing his death.
