Haryana cop, Kaithal resident arrested with heroin in Solan

Two persons, including a Haryana Police constable, were arrested with 157 grams of ‘chitta’ (heroin) in Solan, the police said here today.

The accused have been identified as Pradeep Kumar (40) and Mohit (21), both residents of Kalayat tehsil in Kaithal district of Haryana. An investigation revealed that Pradeep Kumar was a Head Constable in the Haryana Police and was posted in Kaithal district. They had come to Himachal Pradesh from Haryana to sell ‘chitta’.

According to reports, on April 4, a police team of Sadar police station while on patrol duty received information that two persons were roaming near the Dohri Dawal locality in Solan to sell ‘chitta’. The team acted promptly and apprehended the two accused with the contraband.

SP, Solan, Gaurav Singh said that a case under Sections 21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, had been registered against the accused and an investigation was underway. He added that both accused were presented in court which remanded them in five-day judicial custody.

The SP said that on April 1, the accused came to Shimla from Kaithal to sell ‘chitta’ and from there they went to Narkanda in Shimla district to sell the contraband. However, when they could not sell the drug fo a high price there, they decided to sell it in Solan. The Solan police arrested them following a tip-off about their activities.

“Pradeep Kumar has been involved in drug trafficking for a long time and has been mostly supplying ‘chitta’ in the Shimla district. Whenever he delivered ‘chitta’, he wore his police uniform to confuse the local police and avoid getting caught. The criminal records of both arrested individuals are being investigated and a probe is underway,” said the SP.
