BJP flays Cong over Trump-Modi banner at party office

The city BJP has condemned a highly objectionable banner displayed outside the Chandigarh Congress office.

In a statement, UT BJP media in charge Sanjeev Rana said: “The banner shows the USA president standing while Prime Minister Narendra Modi is shown seated at his feet. This is not just an insult to the Prime Minister, but an affront to the dignity and sovereignty of the entire nation.”

He questioned, “Is the Congress trying to show that India is bowing before foreign powers? Isn’t this the same old colonial mindset which has always sought to portray India as weak and submissive?”

Rana said the banner reflects the Congress’ anti-national and distorted mentality. “At a time when India is emerging as a global power and a symbol of strong leadership on the world stage, the Congress is attempting to demean the country by putting up such disgraceful posters in Chandigarh,” he said.

The BJP demanded that the banner be immediately removed, the Congress issue a public apology and a thorough investigation be conducted against those responsible for this shameful act.

Meanwhile, the Chandigarh Congress termed the comments of the local BJP unit on some pictures installed in Congress Bhawan as their crude attempt to hide their embarrassment on the exposure of their anti-Chandigarh approach, which became visible when Chandigarh Administration under the Ministry of Home affairs exorbitantly increased property tax and collector rates.

“The local BJP is also trying to hide the fact that China has illegally usurped India’s land in Ladakh in 2020, and the Prime Minister did not utter a word in protest. On the contrary, Minister for External Affairs S Jaishankar came up with a statement that India could not take on China since it is a big economy,” said Rajiv Sharma, chief spokesperson, Chandigarh Congress.

The Congress also expressed concern at the continuously increasing imports from China, which is damaging India’s medium and small industries. “All this shows that the Union Government is acting soft on China despite its belligerent attitude towards us,” he added.
