In a landmark development for India’s defence industry, India and South Korea have signed a historic agreement to jointly develop next-generation artillery systems. As part of the recently signed collaboration, advanced and highly destructive artillery will be produced for the Indian Army. During the recent turn of events, South Korean defense major Hanwha Aerospace entered into a $253 million contract with famous Indian engineering giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T) to supply components for an additional 100 K9 Vajra-T self-propelled howitzers.
The defense partnership, notably marks a significant milestone in strengthening modern artillery capabilities and deepening strategic ties between the two nations. The K9 weapons, will reportedly be deployed on the India-China border, causing a sense of panic for the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.
About K9 Vajra weapons
The K9 Vajra-T is the Indian variant of South Korea’s K9 Thunder. Adapted to the needs of the Indian Army, the 155 mm / 52-caliber automatic howitzer gun is capable of hitting a distance of up to 50 kilometers. With its extended range ammunition, the gun has a high firing rate and mobility making it extremely effective in the modern battlefield.
One of the most destructive qualities of the gun is that it is equipped with cutting-edge technology is capable of delivering long-range lethal fires with high accuracy & higher rate of fire. With its advanced features, it will be able to operate in sub-zero temperatures in high-altitude areas to its full potential, as per a report by news agency ANI.
South Korea eyes major investments in India in coming years
In another significant development between the two countries, it has been reported that South Korea is looking to double or even triple its investments and business activities in India, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to India, Lee Seong-ho, was quoted as saying in a report by news agency IANS.
The South Korean envoy underscored the growing interest among Korean companies in India’s expanding industrial and healthcare ecosystem, while he was speaking at the inauguration of Boditech Med Inc’s new manufacturing facility in Haryana.
“I see growing signs of Korean companies wanting to expand their business here. We hope to double or even triple Korean investment and business activity in India in the coming years,” he said.
