Amit Shah Hands Over Job Letters To Kin Of J-K Terror Victims, Vows Border Tech Boost For BSF In Kathua

Union Home Minister Amit Shah met the families of 10 police personnel and an engineer on Monday who were killed in separate terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir over the past year. During this meeting, he also handed over job appointment letters to the next of kin, officials stated.

Officials added that amid Shah's ongoing three-day visit to the Union Territory, he met the bereaved families at the Raj Bhavan in Jammu. Among those whom he met were the next of kin of four policemen who lost their lives in a recent encounter with Pakistani terrorists in Kathua district.

Since March 23, a large-scale search operation has been underway in Kathua's forested area, when security forces intercepted a group of five terrorists who had infiltrated through the International Border in the Hiranagar sector, as per the PTI report.

On March 27, a fierce exchange of fire claimed the lives of four policemen—Head Constable Jagbir Singh and Selection Grade Constables Jaswant Singh, Balvinder Singh, and Tariq Hussain—along with two terrorists.

The widows of the fallen officers, from Kathua, Jammu, and Reasi districts, were present at the event, along with relatives of six other police personnel who lost their lives in separate attacks, officials said.

Also in attendance was Ruchi Abrol, the wife of engineer Shashi Bushan Abrol from Jammu’s Talab Tillo area. He was one of seven construction workers killed in a terror strike at Gagangir in Ganderbal district in October last year.

Amit Shah Emphasises Govt's Unwavering Support, Technological Upgrades To BSF

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday also lauded the unwavering commitment of the Border Security Force (BSF), commending its round-the-clock vigilance and ability to operate in harsh weather conditions. He described the BSF as the frontline defenders of the nation, playing a crucial role in safeguarding India's borders.

Speaking to BSF personnel at the 'Vinay' border outpost in Kathua, Shah reiterated the government's dedication to strengthening border security through the adoption of advanced technology, pledging steadfast support to the force’s operations.

"Here, one can truly understand the challenging conditions under which you (BSF) ensure the security of the nation's borders. Whether in intense cold, heavy rain, or 45-degree heat, not a single moment allows you to relax. You have to remain stationed 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, in all types of weather and terrain, staying vigilant so that no adversary can make a move," Amit Shah said, news agency PTI reported.

"The entire country knows that the BSF is our first line of defense. In every war with Pakistan, the BSF has played a crucial role alongside the army. The technical support provided to the BSF over the next 3-4 years will be used to complete border security measures along the India-Pakistan border and later on at the India-Bangladesh border as well. This will include technologies such as advance threat detection and immediate response capabilities," Shah added.

He also emphasised that extending support to the BSF has consistently remained a top priority for the Indian Government. "Whatever plans are provided to us; we are always ready to implement them. Currently, 26 experiments are underway, and within the next year, we will definitely reach a decision that will provide many benefits to you," Amit Shah further added.
