Man actors dreamt of working with Raj Kapoor, especially with his directorial. However, do you know there was one such actress who rejected the offer to work with Raj Kapoor? You’ll be surprised to know the reason behind it. Suchitra Sen, the famous actress of Hindi and Bengali cinema, won everyone’s hearts with her brilliant acting in her time.
Suchitra, who made her debut in Hindi cinema with the role of Paro in the film ‘Devdas’ in 1955, not only won the love of the audience but also got opportunities to work with big names in the industry. Do you know that she flatly refused to work with showman Raj Kapoor? She also gave a very interesting reason for this.
Suchitra Sen had revealed in an old interview that she did not like Raj Kapoor. In this interview, quoted in Amitabh Choudhary’s book ‘Amar Bandhu Suchitra Sen’, Suchitra said, “I do not look for beauty in men, but intelligence and deep conversation. I immediately rejected Raj Kapoor’s offer.”
According to the Indian Express report, she also mentioned the incident after which she took this decision. Suchitra said, “Raj Kapoor came to my house to offer me the lead role in a film. As soon as I sat on the chair, he suddenly sat near my feet and offered me the role while presenting a bouquet of roses. I rejected the offer. I did not like his behaviour. His way of sitting near my feet was not befitting for a man.”
Suchitra Sen distanced herself from the glamour of the film world after her film career. She joined the Ramakrishna Mission and started spending time with her daughter Moon Moon Sen and granddaughters Riya Sen and Raima Sen. Born on 6 April, Suchitra ruled Hindi and Bengali cinema in the 1950s and 60s. Her Bollywood film ‘Aandhi’ also made a lot of headlines. Suchitra Sen died on 17 January 2014.
