James Gunn shares glimpse of 'Peacemaker' Season 2, confirms release date

It's been three years since James Gunn delivered his R-rated, idiosyncratic superhero show, Peacemaker. Gunn, who created the show and directed all of its eight episodes — centred on the titular character, Peacemaker/ Christopher Smith, who showed up in Gunn's 2021 film Suicide Squad — has revealed the teaser of the second season.

John Cena, who played the titular character in the film and Season 1, returns as the character in the show launched by the streaming platform Max on August 21. The update was confirmed by Gunn on his social media pages.

The rest of the cast comprises Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, Chukwudi Iwuji, Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, and others.

Cena's memorable portrayal of the flawed, expletive-spewing, sociopathic anti-hero was one of the show's highlights along with an assortment of characters all with their unique quirks.

In a recent interview with Collider, Danielle Brooks shared that Season 2 will be worth the wait. "It will not disappoint. I will not disappoint. It has a lot of heart in it this season, I think, and it has a great opening. James [Gunn] is so good,” she said.

One of the striking features of the first season was the unique dance number featuring all the actors dressed as their characters. However, Season 2 will have a different dance track, as per Brooks.

Meanwhile, James Gunn, also known for helming Marvel's vastly successful Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, is gearing up for the release of the new DCU Superman reboot he directed. Starring David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and a few other superhero characters, the film is slated for release on July 11, 2025.

Gunn was hired as the new co-CEO and co-chairman of DC Studios by Warner Bros. Discovery in 2022.
