Bill Gates ex-wife Melinda makes shocking revelations about her marriage to Microsoft founder, talks about…
It’s been almost four years since Melinda French Gates announced her divorce from billionaire Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates. Now, she has opened up about her personal journey of heartbreak, self-discovery, and healing. Melinda, who announced her divorce in 2021 after 27 years of marriage, is set to release her memoir titled The Next Day this April. The book is expected to reveal some unknown facts about her life and her experiences as a wife and mother. Readers will also learn about the 60-year-old philanthropist’s painful process of ending her marriage with one of the richest people in the world.
In a recent interview with People, Melinda Gates discussed the emotional difficulties and betrayals within her marriage that led to its end. “It was important for me to be real… Hopefully, it might be helpful to someone else,” she said.
However, the philanthropist has chosen to keep some details private. She said that the decision of separation was not that easy. Melinda stated that by 2019, she was dealing with growing anxiety and nightmares. In her dreams, she used to see her home collapsing around her.
Facing a difficult personal decision, the author recounts a pivotal moment of self-realization. A trip to New Mexico in February 2020 led to a challenging conversation with her husband, initiating a separation. The subsequent summer saw the discussion of divorce.
Melinda acknowledged a difficult marital separation, attributing her ability to cope with the revelations to therapy. She stated that therapy helped her navigate the situation without compromising her own well-being. Regarding Bill’s infidelity, she deferred comment, suggesting it was a matter for him to address.
However, Bill Gates refrained himself from commented on the specifics of their split. He has admitted publicly of infidelity. During his interview in 2022 on TODAY, Gates admitted of making mistakes but refrained himself from going into details.
“I certainly made mistakes, and I take responsibility,” I don’t think delving into the particulars at this point is constructive, but yes, I caused pain, and I feel terrible about that,” he said.
News reports linking Bill Gates to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein emerged during his marriage separation, contributing to speculation about marital difficulties. Gates has since apologized for his association with Epstein, acknowledging his poor judgment. Following their divorce, both Gates and Melinda French Gates have continued their philanthropic endeavors; Melinda through her organization Pivotal Ventures, and Bill through other initiatives, and he has also been publicly involved with Paula Hurd since 2023.
In a February 2024 interview on the TODAY show, Bill discussed his life after his divorce. “I moved past the divorce, Melinda’s doing well. I got a lot of work that I love to do. Despite the fact that the divorce wasn’t great, having those three kids and the work we were able to do, even if I knew it wouldn’t last forever, I would still do it again,” he said.
“It takes courage forging a different life,” Melinda said in her interview. “When you change paths, you realize, oh, it’s a big opening.”
