Bride's Family Calls Groom 'Beggar', Assaults Him After He Gives ₹5,000 For Shoes Instead Of ₹50,000

A groom was humiliated by the bride's family members after he allegedly gave Rs 5,000 instead of Rs 50,000 to the bride's family during the ‘joota chupai’ (hiding shoes) ritual at his wedding.

The groom was reportedly called a beggar by the women from the bride's family for his stingy behavior. The bride's family even locked the groom in a room and beat him with sticks.

The incident reportedly took place on Saturday when the baraat of the groom, identified as Muhammad Shabir from Uttarakhand's Chakrata, reached Bijnor with his family and guests.

Amid wedding rituals, the bride's sister stole Shabir's shoes and demanded Rs 50,000 from him.

Shabir gave Rs 5,000 and demanded his footwear back. After this, some women from the bride's family poked fun at him, calling him a beggar.

An argument broke out between the two families after Shabir was referred to as a beggar, eventually escalating into a physical confrontation. Shabir's relatives claimed they were confined to a room by the bride's family and assaulted with sticks. Conversely, the bride's side contended that the conflict intensified when Shabir's family questioned the quality of the gold they received as a gift.

According to the bride's brother, when asked about their priorities, Shabir's family allegedly stated that they valued money over the bride. Police were notified, and officers were dispatched to successfully calm both parties.

Subsequently, representatives from both families proceeded to the Najibabad police station in Bijnor, where they each presented their version of events to officials. The Najibabad area officer reported that after reviewing the situation, the families reached a mutual resolution.
