Breaking: Stone-pelting on Ram Navami return convoy in Kolkata; vehicles damaged, police silent
Violence broke out in Kolkata’s Park Circus Seven Point area as vehicles returning from a Ram Navami procession were allegedly targeted with stone-pelting. Viral videos show broken rear windows of a white car, with shattered glass and stones inside. The saffron flags mounted on the vehicles were also reportedly damaged. Eyewitnesses claim that the attack occurred because the vehicles were carrying saffron flags, symbolizing the Hindu procession. Another video shows damage to a second vehicle in the same area.According to reports, the incident appeared to be pre-planned. Despite the presence of police at the location, no immediate action was taken, leading to criticism of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s administration. BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, while in Nandigram to lay the foundation stone for a Ram temple, took a political dig, urging people not to be divided or "sold for Rs 500."In contrast, visuals from Ayodhya showcased a divine celebration of Ram Navami, with grand aartis by the Saryu river and glowing lamps lighting up the city. Meanwhile, in another incident, right-wing workers demanded the demolition of a dargah and its conversion into a Hindu worship site. Police have begun investigations and assured legal action where required.
