Odisha: Two critical in bear attacks

Bears spotted in under-construction house in Nabarangpur; villagers panic 

Keonjhar: Two persons sustained grievous injuries after they were attacked by bears in two separate incidents under Sadar forest range and Patna forest range, respectively in Keonjhar district Sunday.

In the first incident, 60-year-old Alomani Mohanta was mauled by a bear at Raghunathpur village under Sadar forest range in the wee hours when she went out to collect Mahua flowers near her house.

The animal which had strayed into the area to eat Mahua flowers inflicted serious injuries to her on head and hands. Villagers rushed her to Keonjhar DHH where she is presently recuperating.

In the other incident, 35-year-old Markand Munda of Swammunda Sahi under Patana forest range was attacked by a bear during the day when he was standing in the courtyard of his house. He has been admitted to Patana CHC in a critical condition.
