‘Psychotic’ mom who drowned toddlers for ‘religious cleansing’ ruled not guilty by insanity

A New Jersey woman, Naomi Elkins, was found not guilty by reason of insanity for the drowning deaths of her two daughters, aged 1 and 3. Elkins believed she was purifying the world through this act, suffering from postpartum psychosis. She has been sentenced to two life terms in a secure psychiatric facility, with ongoing mental health assessments.
