Kapurthala to see major school infra overhaul from today

In a determined push to strengthen public education, the government is set to launch extensive infrastructure development works across eight government schools in Kapurthala district from April 7 under the flagship “Punjab Shiksha Kranti” initiative.

Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal announced the commencement of the project, stating that the next six weeks will mark a transformative phase for these schools, which will receive new science laboratories, additional classrooms, improved sanitation and fortified boundary walls.

Leading the initiative is the School of Eminence at Phagwara, which will undergo a comprehensive renovation at an estimated cost of Rs 43 lakh, along with a new boundary wall constructed for Rs 8 lakh. The Government Girls’ School in Phagwara will also benefit from the construction of a boundary wall worth Rs 2 lakh.

In Balairkhanpur, infrastructure enhancement includes the construction of a science lab and classroom renovations with an outlay of Rs 14.51 lakh. Similarly, Dhapai will see the addition of classrooms for Rs 7.51 lakh and new toilet facilities worth Rs 1.66 lakh.

The dual campuses of Channa Sher Singh in Sultanpur Lodhi — covering both primary and senior secondary wings — will be equipped with a new science laboratory (Rs 11 lakh) and an additional classroom (Rs 6.26 lakh). Further allocations include Rs 7.51 lakh for classroom construction and Rs 4.50 lakh for a boundary wall.

The “Punjab Shiksha Kranti” campaign is a comprehensive state-led effort to uplift the standards of education through infrastructure modernisation, digital readiness and inclusive learning spaces.

DC Panchal said, “This is not just about a physical transformation, it’s about creating environment where students can thrive and teachers can deliver quality education with pride.”

The authorities have assured stringent oversight of all civil works to ensure quality and timely execution. The schools are expected to be ready with upgraded facilities before the upcoming academic session.
