5,128 pregabalin capsules seized from chemist shop

In a major crackdown under the ongoing ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign, the Jalandhar administration, led by Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal, seized medicines worth Rs 2,14,085 from a chemist shop. The owner was involved in unauthorised sale of drugs prone to misuse as narcotic substances.

A joint team of the Health and Police Departments raided Capital Pharma, Shop No. 8, Tilak Nagar Road, Jalandhar, and seized 19 types of allopathic medicines, including pregabalin capsules, gabapentin capsules/tablets and dicyclomine tablets due to the absence of mandatory purchase and sale records.

Aggarwal said the administration has strictly regulated the sale of certain medicines, including pregabalin, gabapentin and anafortan injections to prevent their abuse as narcotics.

He further said the inspection team seized 5,128 pregabalin capsules, 1,100 gabapentin capsules, 700 gabapentin tablets and 4,400 dicyclomine tablets. An FIR has been registered against the shop owner and a detailed investigation is underway.

The administration had recently sealed an illegal drug de-addiction centre at Jamsher, rescuing 34 youths.

Dr Aggarwal reiterated the administration’s commitment to rehabilitating drug-affected individuals and facilitating their reintegration into society. He urged citizens to reach out the district’s de-addiction helpline 0181-2911960 for assistance. Likewise, they can report drug abuse cases on WhatsApp number 9779-100-200, assuring that informants’ identities will be kept confidential.
