2 women among four members of honey-trap gang arrested
The Shahkot police have arrested four members of a gang that were ensnaring innocent people in honey traps and extorting money.
Those arrested have been identified as Charanjit Singh and Gurbaksh Kaur of Salaichan, Shahkot, Dilbagh Singh, alias Bhullar, of Kot Ise Khan Moga, and Kirandeep Kaur, alias Kiran, of Sucha Singh Nagar, Bathinda.
The gang was ensnaring innocent people in honey traps – in the name of extending loans and extorting money from them after shooting videos.
Under directions of SSP, Jalandhar rural, Harvinder Singh Virk, led by DSP, Shahkot, Onkar Singh Brar, a team of officials of the police arrested four members and recovered Rs 10,200 cash, three mobile phones, one car (DL-4C-NE-4582) and a scooter from their posession.
Brar said Jagroop Singh, resident of Zira, Ferozepur, had complained that he worked in the loan department of HDFC Bank, Moga. On April 1, he received a call from a woman regarding a loan and invited him to Shahkot. When Jagroop reached Shahkot, the woman took him to her house at village Salaichan.
Jagroop alleged there were already three women and three men present at that house, who asked him for tea. They locked him in a room, beat him up and stripped him naked and forcibly made an obscene video involving a woman with the intention to blackmail him.
He alleged they then threatened him, took out his ATM and credit cards from his purse and forced him to withdraw Rs 90,000 from the bank. They also took out a check book from his bag and forcibly made him sign two blank checks. He alleged they held him hostage for about 4 hours.
After that, they also took the victim’s personal belongings in their possession, humiliated him and threw him out of the house. He alleged they threatened him that if he told the police, they would make his obscene video viral.
The police said as per the victim’s complaint the next day, he took the village’s prominent men with him and got himself medically examined for the injuries. On receiving the information, the police registered a case and conducted a preliminary investigation. Taking prompt action, the police have arrested four accused members of the gang.
The police said arrested accused Dilbagh Singh had previously committed crime and was out on bail from Bathinda jail since January 1, 2025. The accused are being produced in a court and remand was being obtained, the SSP said.
