Drug case: Bathinda court extends police remand of sacked woman constable
A court here on Sunday extended by two days the policy custody of the dismissed woman constable held for allegedly being involved in drug trafficking.
Amandeep Kaur was arrested on Thursday with 17 gm of heroin, which was seized from the car she was driving.
The police had urged the court to extend her custody, saying it needed more time to uncover details about her drug trafficking network and assets earned from the crime.
“Amandeep was produced in the court as her two-day remand ended today. The court has extended her remand by two days. Investigation is going on in this case and we can’t divulge any further details,” said Bathinda SP (City) Narinder Singh said.
Subject of viral memes
The dismissed cop — dubbed as “Insta Queen” for her popularity on social media platform Instagram — became a subject of several memes that stormed the Internet. Her popularity grew as her Instagram follower count surged from 22,000 to over 70,000 since her arrest three days ago.
The dramatic rise in her followers sparked a debate over social media ethics, with some social media users questioning whether such attention inadvertently glamorises crime.
The memes ranged from being satirical to outright hilarious, blending the dismissed constable’s real-life videos with Bollywood dialogues, crime show references and trending audio clips.
While some netizens criticised the meme culture for trivialising a serious issue, others termed it a “reflection of the public’s way of processing high-profile scandals”.
