Construction agencies told to complete major Karnal Smart City projects by April 30, or face action

Deputy Commissioner-cum-CEO of Karnal Smart City Limited (KSCL) Uttam Singh has directed the construction agencies involved in three major Smart City projects to complete their works by April 30. He has warned that failure to meet the deadline would lead to action as per the terms of their contracts. The agencies have also been directed to ensure high standards of quality in construction.

During his inspection of various project sites, Singh also instructed the General Manager of KSCL Ramphal to closely monitor the progress on a regular basis to ensure timely completion.

Singh visited the construction site of an old-age home in Sector 32, being built at an estimated cost of Rs 10.10 crore. The project was allotted on December 9, 2022, with an initial completion deadline of December 8, 2023. At present, about 83 per cent of the work has been completed. Although the revised deadline is now set for May 31, 2025, the DC has directed the agency to finish the work before April 30, 2025.

The old-age home will have the capacity to accommodate 150 elderly residents. The ground floor will feature 15 rooms and two dormitories, while the first floor will have 15 rooms and three dormitories. A hall in the basement is also being constructed to host small functions and activities for the residents.

Singh also inspected the ongoing work in Sector 33, which includes a community hall, library building, badminton, volleyball courts, boundary wall, entry gate and horticulture work. The entire project is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 13.15 crore. Although the original deadline of December 8, 2023 has already passed, only 76 per cent of the work has been completed so far. The DC has now directed that the project, too, must be completed by April 30.

Singh reviewed the status of the community centre project in Sector 32, which is being developed at a cost of Rs 6.14 crore. The work was allotted on August 13, 2024, with a deadline of November 12, 2025. However, the progress has been sluggish, with only 7 per cent of the work completed to date. The DC emphasised the need to speed up the work and maintain quality standards.

The DC also reviewed the progress of the elevated flyover project in the city, which was being executed at a cost of Rs 122 crore. The work was allotted on December 29, 2023, and the deadline is December 26, 2025. Singh instructed the executing agency to accelerate the pace of construction while strictly adhering to safety parametres.

Singh further visited the under-construction commercial complex at Shakti Colony, which was being developed in two blocks at an estimated cost of Rs 67 crore. He directed the agency to complete the project before April 30.

“I have reviewed the progress of various projects being developed under the Smart City initiative. All construction agencies of three major projects have been instructed to complete their work by the end of April. If they fail to do so, strict action will be taken as per the contract agreements,” warned Singh.
