National conclave highlights CAR T-cell therapy’s transformative potential in cancer treatment

Divya S. Iyer, Managing Director, Vizhinjam International Port, inaugurates the Cura Immunis CAR T-cell therapy national conclave organised by the Department of Medical Oncology and Clinical Hematology, Ernakulam Medical Trust Hospital, at Crowne Plaza, Kochi.

The Department of Medical Oncology and Clinical Haematology at Ernakulam Medical Trust Hospital organised 'Cura Immunis', the national conclave on CAR T-cell Therapy on Sunday. The event took place at Crowne Plaza in Kochi, and was inaugurated by Divya S. Iyer, Managing Director of Vizhinjam International Port.

 

The highlight of the conclave was the inauguration of the hospital’s new Bone Marrow Transplant and CAR T- cell therapy unit. The event was presided over by Dr P.V. Louis, Managing Director of Medical Trust Hospital, and saw key addresses by Dr Varun Rajan, Organising Chairman, and Dr Thomas Kuncheria, Secretary.

Dr Sattva S. Neelapu, a renowned cancer specialist and professor in the Department of Lymphoma and Myeloma, Division of Cancer Medicine, University of Texas, was one of the prominent speakers. He is recognised as a global authority on CAR T-cell therapy.

 

Dr Neelapu delivered the keynote address, highlighting the therapy’s transformative potential in the treatment of cancer.

 

Speaking at the inauguration, Iyer talked about the need to make advanced medical treatments accessible to the common man. “No matter how serious the illness, patients should have hope that they can overcome it and return to life,” she said. “It is the duty of doctors to instill such hope. The tireless efforts of medical professionals behind the development of new therapies are invaluable,” she added.

 

Iyer said CAR T-cell therapy was a significant milestone in the field of cancer care.

 

Eminent oncologists including Dr Navin Khattry (Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai), Dr Varun Rajan, Dr P.V. Thomas, Dr Boban Thomas, Dr V. Sudeep, and Dr Thomas Kuncheria shared insights into the landscape of cellular therapies.
