Kerala BJP Chief Slams Rahul Gandhi, CM Vijayan As Church Land Row Heats Up: ‘Jumping In Race For Appeasement’

Kerala BJP chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar attacked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and CM Pinarayi Vijayan for claiming that the central government would interfere with the Catholic Church land after the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, was passed in parliament. Responding to Gandhi’s post on social media, where he claimed that after the passage of the Waqf Act, the BJP-led government and the RSS would now turn attention towards Christians and other minority communities.

Chandrasekhar posted on X, “One thing I recommend to Constitution waving, India bashing Rahul Gandhi is that he reads, learns the constitution before he uses it for his #CongPoliticsOfLies.”

"Owning land is not a crime just as vast amounts of land is owned by railways, army, plantation owners etc. However, grabbing it from people as Congress leaders in Karnataka do and as the Waqf tried to do is wrong. Scamming people, lying to people, poisoning people with lies, betraying people who vote for you -- that is wrong. That is what Rahul Congress does.”

The former Union Minister, Chandrasekhar, also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bringing about the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, and lashed out at Congress.

“PM @narendramodijis Waqf amendment act , restores the rights of property and appeal to ALL Indians AND ensures that Waqf land is used for the benefit of poor Muslims not rich Cong builder/politicians,” Chandrasekhar posted on X.

The Parliament approved the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, early on Friday after the Rajya Sabha passed it following a 13-hour marathon debate. The Bill was approved in the Rajya Sabha with 128 votes in favour and 95 against. Earlier, the Lok Sabha had cleared it with the support of 288 members, while 232 voted against it.

On Saturday, Rahul alleged that the RSS would soon begin targeting the Christians and referred to an article from the RSS-linked magazine Organiser. According to Hindustan Times, the article claims that Catholic churches were the “largest non-government land holder” in the country, sparking debate as it came on the heels of the Waqf (Amendment) Act being passed.

Rahul, the Leader Of the Opposition in Lok Sabha stated,  “I had said that the Waqf Bill attacks Muslims now but sets a precedent to target other communities in the future. It didn't take long for the RSS to turn its attention to Christians.”

CM Pinarayi Vijayan, referring to the article, said, "It should be understood from the article in the RSS mouthpiece Organizer that the Sangh Parivar is targeting the Catholic Church after the passage of the Waqf Act Amendment Bill in Parliament, which violates the constitutional rights of Muslim minorities”.

"The unnecessary and untimely mention of the Church's property gives some negative signals. Although the article was withdrawn from the Organizer website, what has come out is the true mindset of the RSS. The extremely intense anti-religious sentiment of the majority communalism put forward by the Sangh Parivar can be seen in the article," he added.
