After Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Gaza wars, these countries on the verge of war, they are…, not Turkey and Israel

Addis Ababa: The Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Gaza wars have troubled the entire world. Both these wars have affected several countries in many ways. Amid the ongoing wars, two new countries have reached the brink of war. If the situation does not improve, the world may witness another new war. This war is not going to impact the world economically, but there is a fear that there may be a massive loss of life.

Tension rises Between Ethiopia And Eritrea

As per a report, a war-like conditions has built between Ethiopia and Eritrea. The main reason for the fresh tension is Ethiopia’s desire to reach the sea. This has raised the possibility of another conflict in the Horn of Africa.

Notably, it has been barely seven years since relations between the countries were restored. Eritrea has requested youth of the country to join the army in recent months, while Ethiopia has reportedly deployed troops in joint border areas.

According to analysts, these steps could potentially bring the two armies face to face in conflict.

Will There Be A War For Access To The Red Sea?

Recent statements on X by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed contradict earlier assertions about the necessity of Red Sea access. While previously characterizing access as crucial for Ethiopia’s survival, Abiy now emphasizes a peaceful, diplomatic approach. However, Eritrea’s response remains critical, accusing Ethiopia of misjudging the border situation.

Signs Of Tension

Tensions between the two nations have intensified recently.  Following a September ban by Eritrea, Ethiopian Airlines ceased flights to the country and had its bank accounts frozen, with no explanation provided.  In February, Human Rights Concern Eritrea reported that Eritrea’s government was mandating military mobilization for citizens under 60 and reservists, alleging this constitutes forced conscription.

An Atmosphere Of Fear In Eritrea

“This sudden and unprecedented mobilisation has sent shock waves throughout Eritrean society, as it is believed that war may break out with neighbouring Ethiopia. We call on the United Nations, the African Union and all relevant governments to intervene and put pressure on the governments of Eritrea and Ethiopia to halt these actions, respect the rights of their citizens and prevent any escalation towards war,” HRCE said in its report.
