Man drowns after falling from boat

Nandapur: A man drowned after accidentally falling from a boat while crossing the Pataliganga River at the Gangaguda ghat under this block in the Koraput district Saturday. The deceased was identified as Uddharba Hantal, 44, of Gangaguda village in Golur Panchayat under Nandapur block.

According to reports, Uddharba was rowing a boat across the river by himself for some work when he accidentally fell into the water. Labourers and staff working on a nearby bridge construction site witnessed the incident and rushed to rescue him. However, Uddharba had already died by the time they pulled him out of the river.

On being informed, Padua ASI Ramachandra Madkami and Revenue Inspector Kailash Majhi arrived at the spot. The police conducted a post-mortem of the body before handing it over to the family members.

Uddharba is survived by his wife Kumari, 38, two daughtersPurni, 21, and Namita, 11 and a 5-year-old son. His wife is now deeply worried about the future of their three children.

Samiti member Laxmi Matam and social worker Biranchi Matam have appealed for assistance to support the grieving family. The Panchayat has extended help through the Harishchandra Yojana.
