IPL 2025: MS Dhoni, Vijay Shankar register UNWANTED milestones in CSK’s foolish run-chase against DC

New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings lost to Delhi Capitals by 25 runs in their IPL 2025 match. A slow chase in challenging conditions proved costly for the Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday.

Chennai Super Kings, needing 184 runs for victory, found themselves in a precarious position at 74 for 5 in the 10.4th over. MS Dhoni, making his earliest appearance in a full 20-over match since 2023, came to the crease. Despite needing a significant 110 runs from the remaining 56 balls, and partnering with Vijay Shankar (24 runs off 23 balls), the team’s response was unexpectedly slow and perplexing.

Dhoni and Shankar’s slow batting significantly hampered Chennai Super Kings’ run rate, scoring only 32 runs in 4.2 overs. Shankar’s fifty, achieved in 43 balls, was the slowest of the IPL 2025 season, and this performance highlights CSK’s concerning trend of slow scoring, as they now hold three of the four slowest fifties in the tournament.

Dhoni had a disappointing performance, scoring his first boundary, a six, only after 19 balls, the slowest in the season. Despite an 84-run, unbeaten partnership with his partner, their slow scoring rate (over 9.2 overs) proved insufficient to significantly influence the match.

Delhi Capitals, led by KL Rahul’s 77 runs from 51 balls, posted a total of 183/6. This victory maintains Delhi’s undefeated record and extends Chennai Super Kings’ struggles.
