Teen Dies By Suicide After Jumping From Fourth Floor Of Shopping Mall In Mohali

A 17-year-old boy died by suicide in Punjab after he jumped off the fourth floor of a popular shopping mall in Mohali. The incident was captured on a CCTV camera where the boy, Abhijeet was seen pacing near a glass railing on the fourth floor of Bestech Square Mall, at 9.14 am on Saturday.

He walks up to the railing twice, initially stopping and changing the direction the second time. However, at 9:19 am, he paced towards the railing, climbed and and jumped from it, reported NDTV. 

The police were alerted about the incident and rushed him to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. 

"We got a call around 9.30 am that a boy who appeared to be around 17-18 years old has attempted suicide by jumping from the fourth floor of the Bestech mall," said a senior police official. 

"Our team reached the spot within five to eight minutes and he was rushed to a hospital. We were informed by the hospital a few hours later that he had died," the official added. 

According to the official, Abhijeet's father told them that his son had been depressed. The deceased was a middle child and had an older as well as a younger brother. 

When asked what the boy did at the mall that early in the morning, the officer said that the food court and the multiplex at the mall opened early. Staff at the mall told the police that the boy purchased a bottle of water. 

Teen Hangs Self To Death 

A 16-year-old boy died by suicide in Mumbai's Thane after his parents took away his mobile phone to prevent him from playing games. Since the boy, who completed his class 9th and moved to class 10th, was not concentrating on his studies, his parents confiscated his mobile phone. 

The boy was identified as Aman Shahoo, a resident of Nevali village in Ambernath taluka, reported The Times of India. According to police, Aman had recently completed his exams for class 9th and his parents enrolled him for class 10th. 

However, not concentrating on his studies and mostly playing games on the phone, his father took his mobile on Wednesday. Upset over father's action, Aman allegedly ended his life by hanging himself late at night.
