Civic body lodges police complaint against illegal constructions in Phagwara
The Municipal Corporation has taken strict action against unauthorised construction on Hoshiarpur Road in Phagwara. MC Superintending Engineer Rajinder Chopra said here today that a detailed application has been sent to the SHO city in this regard. Earlier also, the MC had sent an application to the police on March 19 but nothing could be initiated.
Superintending Engineer Chopra said that a toilet block was being constructed opposite Sudhir Sweet Shop without proper approval, leading to official intervention.
He said according to official documents, an area under the jurisdiction of Haidabad Co-Op L/C Society Ltd was allotted as per letter number 186/SE, dated August 5, 2024. However, it was later discovered that a permanent structure was being illegally built, violating regulations. The MC came into action after a detailed conversation between Phagwara MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal and MC Commissioner Dr Akshita Gupta in the presence of Congress councillor Sanjeev Bugga on the issue.
Municipal Commissioner Dr Akshita Gupta said the authorities had previously issued warnings regarding the illegal addition of a washroom building, but construction continued.
Chopra said that on March 17, the enforcement department conducted an inspection and confirmed the violations. Subsequently, from March 29 to March 31, the illegal structure was to be demolished.
Despite clear instructions, those involved did not halt the construction.
The SE said that consequently, on March 17, MC officials filed a formal complaint (FIR) at the city police station, Phagwara, against the violators.
When contacted, Senior Superintendent of Police, Kapurthala, Gaurav Tura said the matter was brought to his notice and all required steps would be initiated to remove illegal encroachments/constructions.
