Woman hangs self to death at house

A 22-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide in West Delhi’s Uttam Nagar on March 29, leaving behind a note accusing a man of not returning Rs 1.5 lakh she had lent him, the police said.

The woman, who lived with her mother, sister and brother in a rented house, was found hanging in her room by her younger sister, Pooja. According to officials, she wrote the mobile number of the accused on the wall of her room and also left behind a suicide note urging the police to take strict action.

“In her note, she wrote that Akash did not return the money despite repeated requests.She also alleged that Akash and his family harassed her, and pleaded that he should not be spared,” a senior police officer said.

The police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against the accused, identified as Akash, who is currently absconding.

The woman worked at a boutique here and also helped out at a nearby school. On the day of the incident, her mother and brother had gone to Rajasthan to attend a wedding, leaving her and Pooja at home.

“Pooja knocked the next morning. After getting no response, she used a spare key to open the door and found her sister hanging,” the officer added.

Pooja also told the police that Akash used to harass her sister at her workplace.

“We are trying to trace Akash and are examining his family’s role, as alleged by the victim,” the officer said.

The body was sent for post-mortem examination. Further investigations are underway.
