Man hammers wife to death over suspicion of infidelity

A man allegedly killed his wife by smashing her head with a hammer following a heated argument in Sector 15, Noida, the police said on Saturday. The accused, identified as Nurullah Haider (55), suspected his wife of having extramarital affairs.

The deceased has been identified as Asma Khan (42). She was working as a software engineer with a private company in Sector 62. Hailing from Delhi, she held an engineering degree from Jamia Millia Islamia. Haider, an engineering graduate from Bihar, is jobless.

The incident took place on Friday. “After getting information about the incident, a team of the police and forensic experts reached the spot. We took the accused into custody and sent the body for post-mortem examination. Further investigations are on in the case,” said an official.

The couple got married in 2005 had two children — a son pursuing engineering and a daughter studying in Class VIII. The couple’s son informed the police after the incident.

“Their daughter informed me about the incident on Saturday morning. They were fighting for several days. We did not expect that he would take such a step,” the victim’s brother-in-law said.

The police said preliminary investigation suggests that Haider had been harboring suspicions about his wife’s fidelity for some time, which might have triggered the attack.
