Five snatchers held in two separate instances

The Amritsar rural police have cracked the snatching incident in which a Russian national was looted by two bike-borne persons around 15 days ago. The victim was identified as Valentine.

Harchand Singh Sandhu, SHO, Jandiala police station, said on March 20, Valentine was coming to Amritsar from Jalandhar. He was travelling on his bicycle. When he reached near Mallian village, he stopped for taking medicine from his bag. He said two bike-borne persons with covered faces came from behind and snatched his carry bag containing his passport, other documents, a mobile phone, Rs 2,000 cash and 192 dollars. He had lodged a complaint with the Jandiala police in this connection.

Harchand said after lodging an FIR, police teams swung into action and scanned the CCTV cameras in the area. During investigation, the police identified the two suspects, Chand Singh and Nishan Singh of Rayya.

Both the persons were drug addicts and used to commit snatchings in order to have money for their daily dose. They have been arrested and brought on police remand for further investigations. The police have recovered the bike used in the crime and a probe was on to recover other robbed items, including the mobile phone and the passport.
