SRINAGAR, Apr 5: Veteran trade union leader J&K EJAC vice president and Chairman of the Mechanical Irrigation and Flood Control Employees Federation (MI&FCEF), Farooq Ahmad Khan, has reiterated his full support for J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s recent initiative to address the regularization of daily rated workers (DRWs) and adhoc/casual laborers in Jammu and Kashmir.
While appreciating the formation of a high-powered committee led by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Khan emphasized the urgent need to fast-track the process to alleviate the prolonged suffering of these employees.
“The daily wagers, casual laborers and seasonal employees have been toiling for years without any job security. While we welcome the Chief Minister’s assurance, we urge the committee to function with urgency and deliver concrete results. Thousands of families are waiting for justice.” Khan said.
He pointed out that many of these workers have rendered decades of dedicated service across departments, contributing significantly to public welfare and regional development. Khan expressed high expectations from the Omar Abdullah-led Government, urging prompt action to grant these employees the job security and stability they deserve.
Farooq also appeals to Jal Shakti Minister to play a proactive role in facilitating the process within the Irrigation and Flood Control Department. He stressed that the Minister’s active involvement is crucial to addressing the genuine concerns of employees and ensuring timely implementation of the committee’s recommendations.
He made a strong appeal to the Chief Minister, Jal Shakti Minister, Chief Secretary and Commissioner Secretary Shaleen Kabra to urgently fill the long-pending vacant posts of Chief Engineers/SEs/ XEns in various departments including PHE and I&FC.
“Many officials are currently holding multiple charges, severely affecting the departments’ day-to-day functioning,” Khan said. “Filling up these posts is essential to restoring administrative efficiency and ensuring that public services are not compromised,” he added.
