‘Youth of Punjab’ campaign to intensify anti-drug drive, launching from Amritsar

The Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has announced to hold a ‘Youth of Punjab’ campaign to expand the ongoing fight against drug addiction. The drive aims to engage youths, raise awareness and take organised steps toward rehabilitation of those who are trying to break free from addiction.

A significant push will be made to disassociate young people from drug peddling and offer them avenues for recovery in collaboration with the National Consultative Committee on De-addiction and Rehabilitation (NCCDR). The intensified campaign, which seeks to cover all districts of the state, will be officially launched from the holy city of Amritsar soon.

Sukhwinder Singh Bindra, a national member of the National Institute of Social Defence and a special invitee to the NCCDR, emphasised that the fight against drug addiction would receive further reinforcement. A series of events focusing on spreading awareness about the causes and consequences of drug abuse will be held across the state.

“Following our success in sensitising a large number of youth through seminars, workshops and sports events during the first phase of the campaign, we are expanding our efforts in the second phase,” said Bindra. “Our goal is to widen the scope of this mission and amplify our reach throughout the region.”

Bindra also praised the efforts of various educational and social organisations in the implementation of Union Government policies aimed at eradicating drugs from the border areas. He noted that many social organisation office-bearers and activists were eager to support the campaign, helping young people realise the importance of engaging in sports and other healthy activities as an alternative to drugs.

Bindra expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading this initiative in the state.

All events will be conducted under the supervision of Dr Virender Kumar, Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment and Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria. The ongoing push for a drug-free Punjab continues, with a collective effort aimed at building a stronger, healthier future for the state’s youth.
