Abohar married woman ‘sold’ in Rajasthan, rescued
A 27-year-old married woman, who was admitted to Abohar Civil Hospital today, has alleged that she was “sold" by some residents of Azeemgarh here in connivance with her aunt (sister of her mother) to a man in Bikaner for Rs 3 lakh.
The woman, married at Peelibanga in Hanumangarh, was forcibly married to the buyer, who allegedly exploited her sexually for about a month in captivity. The victim woman somehow managed to contact her family on phone, which reached Bikaner, rescued her and got her admitted in a hospital here.
The police have initiated investigation in the matter. Sources said the victim had been living with her family here for the past few months after coming from Peelibanga due to some differences with her in-laws’ family.
The victim said she often used to go to Bakainwala village to earn money for livelihood by plucking kinnow fruit in orchards with the help of her mother’s sister (aunt) who had got settled in the village.
A few months ago, when she began staying with her aunt, the latter planned to sell her in Rajasthan in conspiracy with five youths who had allegedly been doing human trafficking.
She said sometime back, her aunt took her to a house in Azeemgarh on the pretext of farm labour. Five youths, who were present there, gave her some intoxicating drink and then took her to Bikaner in the evening train. There she was allegedly sold to a person at a village near Bikaner.
The woman alleged that the buyer kept her hostage in his house for about a month and forcibly married her and sexually abused her. Yesterday, she somehow arranged a phone call and informed her family in the Abohar area. Her family and panchayat reached there. She was rescued from the clutches of the said person, brought to Abohar and admitted to a hospital here.
The victim’s family has urged the police to take strict action against the woman involved in the case, the five youths of Azeemgarh and the buyer in Bikaner.
Abohar City-1 police station incharge Maninder Singh said he had got the victim’s online medical legal report. Her statement would be recorded for further action, he said.
