Intruder shot along IB, buried as Pak Rangers refuse to take body
A Pakistani intruder was shot dead along the International Border in the Jammu region, the Border Security Force (BSF) said on Saturday.
It said the force foiled an infiltration attempt from across the border. The authorities are also learnt to have ensured his proper Islamic burial after the Pakistan Rangers refused to accept his body.
The unidentified man, aged around 35 years, was killed when the BSF personnel opened fire after noticing suspicious movement near a border outpost in the Abdullian area of the RS Pura sector late on Friday night, officials said.
“On the intervening night of April 4 and 5, the alert BSF troops observed a suspicious movement across the International Border in Jammu border area and an intruder was seen crossing the IB,” a BSF spokesperson said.
He said the intruder was challenged by the troops but he paid no heed and kept moving. “The BSF troops, sensing a threat, neutralised the intruder. The identity and motive of the intruder are being ascertained,” he added.
The spokesperson said a strong protest has been lodged with the BSF’s Pakistani counterpart. The local police were informed, which sent the body for medico-legal formalities, he added.
On Saturday, the BSF handed over a protest note to the Pakistan Rangers over the infiltration attempt, said sources.
The Pakistani side refused to accept the body of the intruder, sources said, adding that no identity card was recovered from the possession of the intruder.
After the completion of the post-mortem examination and other formalities, the body was taken by police to the Agra Chak area of RS Pura, where a burial was conducted in accordance with Islamic rituals by involving a group of local Muslims.
