Chamba news: 11-year-old loses life as dumper falls into gorge

An 11-year-old boy was killed and three others injured seriously after the dumper truck they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge at Patnothar in Chowari subdivision of Chamba district late on Friday night. The accident occurred when the vehicle, loaded with sand, was en route from Garnota to Bhont, said the police.

Deceased has been identified as Ishaan Kapoor, a resident of Bhont village, while his 6-year-old brother Ayansh Kapoor and mother Tripta Devi, 35, were seriously hurt.

The woman along with her two children, had sought a lift in the tipper as no other means of transport were available at the time due to the late hour. Karan Singh, 32, resident of Andralanal who was behind the wheel, has also been injured. Prima facie, the driver lost control of the vehicle near Patnothar, causing it to veer off the road and fall into a deep gorge.

Local residents, hearing the loud crash, rushed to the site and helped rescue the injured from the wreckage. They were taken to the Community Health Centre in Samot, where doctors declared Ishaan Kapoor dead on arrival. The other injured passengers were given first aid and later referred to Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda.

The police have registered a case under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Motor Vehicle Act and investigation has been initiated into the matter.
