Sirsa university hosts cybersecurity event

The Computer Science and Engineering Department of Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU), Sirsa, recently organised a one-day workshop on “Cyber Hygiene: A Step Towards Caution and Vigilance”.

The workshop aimed to raise awareness among participants about the different types of cyber-attacks, the nature of cybercrimes, ways to protect oneself against them, and the process of filing cyber-fraud complaints.

The workshop was chaired by HoD Harish Rohil. Dr Suman Kasania was the organising secretary for the workshop, while Dr Kuldeep coordinated it.

Vikram Singh, as the keynote speaker at the event, stressed the growing complexity of cyber-attacks in today’s digital age. He underscored the importance of understanding and practicing cyber-hygiene for both students and teachers. He said cybercrimes not only caused financial damage but also threatened personal privacy and reputation. He exhorted everyone to be cautious while using digital platforms and to help raise awareness about cybercrimes.

Sikandar, District Informatics Officer and an expert speaker at the event, discussed technical aspects of cyber security. Kuldeep Jandu, a cyber-security expert, shared legal strategies for dealing with cybercrimes. A soft-copy of a booklet titled “Basics of Cyber Hygiene for Higher Education Institutions,” published by the University Grants Commission (UGC), was shared with all participants.
