Pratap Nagar residents rue incomplete road repair
Residents of Pratap Nagar have been inconvenienced due to an incomplete road repair project that has been left unattended for over two months. The broken road and scattered debris have made life difficult for children, elderly and commuters.
Expressing frustration over the state of affairs, Jai Singh, a resident alleged, “Children and the elderly cannot venture out due to the damaged road. I talked to the contractor, but no action has been taken. My 75-year-old mother has not stepped out of the house in all this time. She even suffered a fracture in the leg as she slipped on the road while walking home.” According to Singh, the road was supposed to be repaired 75 days ago, but the work stopped midway, leaving the area in a deplorable condition.
Sumit Kumar, a member of the Padao Bhaichara Samiti, remarked, “We congratulate the new Mayor who took charge recently. But this locality, which is part of Ward 6, has never received proper attention in the past. Now, we have little hope for change.” He further stated that the broken road had led to accidents, with several children and elderly people suffering fractures. Additionally, an open manhole posed risk to pedestrians, he said.
The residents claim that the incomplete road work has made it impossible to drive any vehicle through the area. They have repeatedly urged the municipal corporation to address the problem, but their complaints have fallen on deaf ears. Kumar emphasised, “We request the newly set up Municipal Corporation body to take immediate measures to fix the road. People have been suffering for far too long.”
The issue has sparked widespread discontent among the locals, who gathered to demand urgent intervention. Present at the site were residents, including Jai Singh Verma, Prahlad Ahuja, Sanjeev Jain, Chintu Thakral, Naveen Kundalwal, Neeru Sardana, Shashi Arya, Prem Kukreja, Kailash Nagpal and others.
The residents demanded strict action against those who were responsible for the delay in the project, which had become a major source of inconvenience for the residents. They said they would take up the matter at the higher level if the situation did not improve in the next couple of days.
