Film cities to come up at Pinjore, Gurugram

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has said the state government has decided to develop two film cities to promote the film industry and support artistes.

Actor Rajkummar Rao, who hails from Haryana, said it would prove to be a significant platform to empower and inspire young talent.

“In the first phase, a film city will be established on 100 acres at Pinjore in Panchkula district. The land has already been identified, and the process of appointing a consultant for the project is under way," said Saini, who was in Rohtak to attend the concluding ceremony of the Haryana Film Festival.

He said in the second phase, another film city would be developed in Gurugram. “The land is being identified for that," he said, adding that the initiatives would not only benefit professionals associated with the film industry but also create new employment opportunities.

The CM also assured the artistes associated with the film industry that efforts would be made to telecast one Haryanvi film every week on Doordarshan in coordination with Prasar Bharati.

He maintained that the responsibility of introducing filmmaking courses in all universities across Haryana would be entrusted to Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (SUPVA).

SUPVA, in collaboration with the Education Department, would also work towards introducing theatre education in schools, he added.

Addressing the demand to revive single-screen cinemas, the Chief Minister said the government had constituted a film promotion board to support regional cinema.

The board would collaborate with the Department of Art and Cultural Affairs to take the initiative forward, he stated, asserting that cinema was not just a source of entertainment, but a powerful medium for social transformation and public awareness.

“While film festivals have traditionally been organised in cities like Goa and Pune, hosting such a festival in Haryana is a bold and forward-looking initiative. It marks a significant step towards establishing Haryana’s distinct presence in the world of cinema," he said.

Haryana held immense potential for the growth of the film industry and to harness it, the government had introduced the Haryana Film and Entertainment Policy, he said. “An online system has been implemented to streamline film shooting permissions. The government’s vision is to transform Haryana into a hub of attraction for filmmakers from Bollywood, Hollywood, and across the globe," he stated.

Actor Rajkummar Rao, who hails from Haryana, said it would prove to be a significant platform to empower and inspire young talent. “If you pursue your passion with dedication, hard work, and sincerity, success will surely follow,” he said while addressing participants.
