Police continue crackdown on criminals in Sec 25, Maloya
Continuing crackdown on persons with criminal past and suspects, the UT police carried out another cordon and search operation (CASO) in Sector 25 colony and Maloya this morning.
Today’s operations saw a massive police deployment with over 45 personnel conducting the drive in Maloya at 5:30 am. The teams rounded up 72 suspicious individuals, including bad characters, prisoners recently released and strangers in Maloya between 5:30 and 8:30 am. A thorough search was conducted of suspected vehicles and persons. A total of 40 vehicles were checked and two challans were issued for traffic violations. After verification at the Maloya Police Station, 27 were released. Preventive action was taken for three suspects under Section 129 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and seven jail released/repeat offenders were booked under Section 129/170.
Three nakas were set up at the entry points of Sector 25 Colony and checking was carried out throughout the day. Preventive action was taken against six suspects and 18 individuals who were recently released for jail, said the police. The operation follows public outrage over the recent stabbing of Aditya Thakur, a Panjab University student, Shubham and his friend in the sector. The main accused, a juvenile, and four others were arrested for stabbing Thakur, who succumbed to injuries at the hospital.
Local residents, though relieved by the intensified police action, have reiterated their demand for a long-term solution to the rising crime in the area. “The police response has been swift, but we need sustained patrolling and community engagement,” said Kamla Devi, a local resident.
The police assured residents the drive would continue to curb crime and instil public confidence in Sector 25 and adjoining areas.
A 20-year old youth was nabbed on Thursday night with a countrymade pistol and two cartridges. He was produced before the magistrate, who sent him to three-day remand. Caught by ASI Surinder Singh near Sector 25 forest area, Abhishek is a native of Dalheri, Saharanpur, UP. The operation was carried out on the directives of SSP Kanwardeep Kaur and SP-City Geetanjali Khandelwal.
