80 peddlers held in Rupnagar
Under the ongoing “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign, Rupnagar police have registered 51 drug-related cases and arrested nearly 80 smugglers between February 22 and April 4. Out of these, 15 are commercial-level cases, said SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana.
Addressing a district-level meeting with elected representatives, NGOs, educational institutions and NCC/NSS cadets at Shehnai Palace, the SSP shared the progress of the campaign aimed at making Rupnagar drug-free. He stated that the campaign, launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and DGP Gaurav Yadav, targets not just drug control but total eradication.
The police have seized 17 kg 242 gram of poppy husk, 2 kg 839 gram of poppy plants, 7,484 intoxicant capsules, 187 narcotic injections, 37 gram 124 mg of heroin, 1 kg 510 gram of narcotic powder and cash amounting to Rs 39,950 from those arrested.
He also informed that under “Project Sampark”, the Punjab Police aims to strengthen ties with local communities to address issues collectively. Notably, 178 Panchayats in Rupnagar have passed resolutions refusing to support bail applications for drug peddlers.
During the meeting, community representatives expressed their full support and called for the complete eradication—not just control—of the drug menace. Citizens raised their hands in symbolic solidarity, pledging full cooperation with police efforts.
