Ram Navami 2025: Signficance

Ram Navami is a significant Hindu festival celebrating the birth anniversary of Lord Shri Rama, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Born in Ayodhya to King Dasharatha and Queen Kaushalya, Lord Rama symbolizes virtue, idealism, and dharma. The day marks the triumph of good over evil and coincides with the conclusion of Chaitra Navratri—reflecting devotion to the Divine Feminine.

Why Do We Celebrate Ram Navami?

According to Hindu scriptures, King Dasharatha, who had no children despite having three wives, performed the Ashwamegha Yagya for son blessings upon the advice of Maha Rishi Vashishth. After the Yajna, the queens consumed a blessed kheer, leading to the birth of four sons. On the ninth day of Chaitra, Sumitra gave birth to Shatrughan and Lakshman, Kaikeyi to Bharat, and Kaushalya to Ram. Hence, Lord Shri Ram's birth anniversary is celebrated globally.

How Ram Navami is celebrated?

Devotees have a lot of zeal and passion in celebrating Ram Navami. Some devotees organise kirtans and Bhajans, while others conduct the Ramcharitmanas Path, which is a another great sacred text of Hindus. The famous Ram temple, the birthplace of Lord Ram, Ayodhya Ram Mandir, is a popular destination for tourists in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Since the birth day is celebrated with much fanfare at Ayodhya, the Janmbhoomi of Lord Shri Rama, they first take a sacred plunge in the Saryu River before going to the Rama temple to be an important part of in birthday festivities.

Ram Navami 2025: Puja Vidhi, Samagri, and Mantras

Ram Navami is marked by most devotees keeping a fast on this day and preferring to eat sattvic food (without salt), while also visiting temples and listening to stories of Ram’s birth and legends from the Ramayana.

Devotees also sing bhajans and chant mantras of Lord Ram in addition to worshipping the deities of his family, his loyal brother Lakshman, his devoted wife Sita and Rama’s greatest devotee, Hanuman.

Devotees offer flowers, sweets, and incense sticks to please Lord Rama. Two plates are kept ready in front of the deities. One plate contains prasad, and the other plate contains items like bangles, aipun, rice, water and flowers for the pooja rituals.

After the pooja is concluded, aarti is performed, and the holy water of the pooja is sprinkled over the devotees as a sign of blessing from God.
