Kunal Kamra row: Stand-up comedian's profile, shows 'disappears' from BookMyShow after Shiv Sena backlash

Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra, notorious for his brand of political satire, has suddenly found his upcoming shows, and his artist profile delisted from e-ticketing platform BookMyShow.

This follows Shiv Sena functionary Rahool Kanal's plea to have the comedian delisted from the ticket booking platform. Kanal's reaction is the latest in a series of responses from the party against the comedian for his satirical “traitor” joke about Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Kanal praised BookMyShow's response, citing the need to keep the portal “clean and keeping such artists out of the list of pure entertainment”, PTI reported. Kamra's delisting comes after Kanal had posted a letter online on April 2, warning about the dangers of Kamra's divisive comedy, and the impact it might have on social harmony.

“By providing a platform for his performances, BookMyShow inadvertently lends credibility and reach to an individual whose actions threaten public order, particularly in a vibrant and diverse city like Mumbai, where your company is headquartered," Kanal wrote further in his letter to the popular online ticketing platform.

In response, the comedian inquired if he could still list his shows on their platform. "If not, it's fine. I understand," he wrote on X.

The traitor 'joke' controversy is by no means over for Kamra, who is currently believed to be residing in Tamil Nadu. He had been issued a third summons by the Mumbai police on Tuesday and he received numerous death threats over the phone.
