Tamil Nadu Man Kidnaps Odisha Couple's Child From Train, Arrested In Kerala
A man from Tamil Nadu has been taken into custody for allegedly abducting a one-year-old girl from an Odisha-based couple while they were asleep on a train in Kerala. The incident occurred aboard Tata Nagar Express on Friday night. The accused reportedly attempted to flee with the child after the train arrived at Olavakkode railway station in Palakkad. However, his suspicious behaviour and the child’s persistent crying drew the attention of nearby locals, including alert autorickshaw drivers.
A Palakkad Town North police official said, as per PTI, when the man was questioned by the locals he gave inconsistent answers, raising doubts about his intentions. Soon, the locals intervened, took custody of the child, and immediately informed the authorities.
Thanks to their swift action, the child was safely returned to her parents, who had been searching for the child after waking up from the sleep in their compartment. "We woke up when the train reached Thrissur and realised that our daughter was missing. We searched on the train, but did not find her. So, we got down and told the railway police there," the father said, as per PTI.
Police confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and that his formal arrest will be processed soon. Authorities praised the quick-thinking bystanders whose intervention helped prevent a potential tragedy.
Further investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the attempted kidnapping and whether the accused acted alone or as part of a larger network.
