Ducati has stepped into new territory with the global debut of its first motocross motorcycle, the Desmo450 MX. Marking a significant milestone for the Italian brand, this move expands Ducati’s reach beyond road and track performance into the competitive world of off-road racing.
The Ducati Desmo450 MX carries the brand’s signature focus on innovation and engineering, featuring segment-first technologies inspired by Ducati’s racing heritage in MotoGP and WorldSBK. Developed with insights from its racing division, the motocross machine reflects Ducati’s strategy of testing performance-driven ideas in competition before applying them to production models.
Ducati Desmo450 MXDucati Desmo450 MX is just the beginning of Ducati’s ambitious foray into the off-road world, as the brand plans to roll out a full lineup of purpose-built dirt bikes. With this expansion, Ducati aims to connect with a new generation of riders and grow its passionate community beyond traditional road enthusiasts. To ensure top-tier service and support, the company has also invested in training select dealerships, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to handle the demands of this new segment.
Ducati Desmo450 MX stands out in the motocross world with its all-new 449.6cc single-cylinder engine featuring Desmodromic valve timing – a first for this segment. Built for serious off-road performance, the engine delivers 63.5 hp at 9,400 rpm and 53.5 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm, with a redline set at an impressive 11,900 rpm. What sets this bike apart is its strong torque delivery from low revs, offering 70% of peak torque as early as 4,200 rpm. This makes it easier to handle through corners and quick on exits, providing smooth yet aggressive acceleration. The result is a less tiring, more enjoyable ride that delivers top-tier performance across the entire rev range.
Ducati Desmo450 MXDrawing from its success in MotoGP and WorldSBK, Ducati has equipped the Desmo450 MX with advanced electronics that set a new benchmark for motocross bikes. The motorcycle features a sophisticated Ducati Traction Control (DTC) system that adjusts power delivery based on real-time rear wheel slip and vehicle dynamics, offering better lap times, rider safety, and reduced fatigue. Also onboard are Launch Control and Engine Brake Control, both adjustable through two Riding Modes and customisable via the X-Link App. For added performance, the bike comes with a Quickshifter for seamless upshifts, giving riders a high-tech edge on the dirt track.
