UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar says new foreign degree norms will align Indian education with global standards

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has notified new regulations to streamline the recognition of foreign qualifications in India. Effective from March 22, 2024, the rules introduce a structured, technology-driven equivalence framework aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. UGC Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar said the reform will eliminate procedural delays and help make India’s higher education system globally competitive and inclusive, benefiting students with international degrees and promoting fair recognition of foreign credentials.
