Campus notes: Yudh Nashian Virudh campaign
Students and teachers of Spring Dale Senior School came in support of the “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign initiated by the Government of Punjab and the Amritsar administration with the students and teachers of the school organising a \I“Say No To Drugs” \Icampaign. The event being led by the student council and the Youth For Change club of the school, witnessed a pledge administered under the leadership of their school Principal Rajiv Kumar Sharma and also a poster-making campaign on the theme\I, Say No To Drugs And Yes To Life.\I Sahiljit Singh Sandhu, Chairman, Spring Dale Educational Society, shared that the school has opted for this campaign under its social outreach programme. A poster-making campaign on the theme of \ISay No To Drugs And Yes To Life\I was also organised in the school wherein the posters prepared by the students will be handed over to the Red Cross Society.
War against drugs walk
Amritsar: Golden Group of Institutions, Gurdaspur, actively participated in the “War against Drugs” campaign organised by the Governor of Punjab, Gulab Chand Kataria, at Dera Baba Nanak, Kartarpur corridor, Gurdaspur. Students and staff from the institution took part in the noble initiative with zeal. Dr Mohit Mahajan, chairman of the institution, had the proud privilege of conducting the badging ceremony for dignitaries and officials. He also honoured the Governor with a “doshala” as a mark of respect. The event reflected the institute’s dedication to social causes and youth empowerment.
Livestock Judging Competition
Amritsar: Khalsa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (KCVAS) organised a one-day ‘Livestock Judging Competition’ under ‘Catch Cow Cues’ programme for the first time in the premises of Livestock Farm Complex (LFC). The competition was inaugurated by Dr SK Nagpal, Managing Director, KCVAS, and Dr Harish Kumar Verma, principal of the college. The judging events were conducted by the outgoing interns on different categories of cows, buffalos, sheep and goat. The interns were divided into six groups as judging teams and they judged the animals on the basis of body capacity, gait, udder, breed and other signs and submitted their scores. Two jury teams comprising senior faculty members lead by Dr VK Gandotra and Dr TAS Ganai judged the scores of the students and declared the winners for the various categories. Dr RK Taggar, HoD, Livestock Farm Complex, also informed about the evaluation of livestock for judging on the basis of breed characteristics conformation and productivity aspects.
Awareness camp at GNDU
Amritsar: The Department of Psychology organised an “Awareness camp for Mental Health and Drug-free Society” in Ranghar village of Amritsar district. The initiative was a significant step towards promoting mental health awareness and staying away from drugs in rural Punjab. A large number of residents of the village listened to lectures on various psychological topics on the occasion and tried to connect them with their lives. An attempt was made to understand their concerns through various psychological tools. During this special programme, Dr Rupan Dhillon (Head, Department of Psychology), Dr Balbinder Singh (Assistant Professor, Psychology), PhD scholars and diploma students of the department addressed the students. This camp saw the support of Sumanpreet Kaur, Sarpanch, Ranghar, and villagers.
Nat’l Mathematics Day celebrations
Jalandhar: DAV Institute of Engineering and Technology marked National Mathematics Day with great enthusiasm. Organised by the Research, Innovation, and Consultancy Cell in collaboration with the Department of Applied Sciences, the event was sponsored by NCSTC, DST, and PSCST. The day honoured the legendary mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, while highlighting the crucial role of mathematics in scientific progress. Dr Rajni Sharma welcomed the attendees and stressed the importance of analytical thinking in problem-solving. Dr Jagjit Malhotra, Officiating Principal, spoke about the relevance of mathematics in fields such as AI, cryptography, and automation. Dr Puneet Pasricha from IIT Ropar delivered a keynote address on the application of machine learning in finance, focusing on forecasting and fraud detection. Various competitions, including mathematical origami, rangoli, poem recitation, and a quiz, were held. Kumar Sambhav served as the quiz master, engaging participants in lively discussions. Dr Kanchan L. Singh expressed gratitude to the speakers, team, and sponsors for their contributions. Dr Rajni Sharma and Dr Neeru Sharma coordinated the event, with support from Dr Payal Sharma and Dr Suman Arora. The event concluded successfully, promoting creativity and innovation in mathematics.
New session begins at State Public
Jalandhar: State Public School, Jalandhar Cantt, ushered in the new academic session for 2025-26, warmly welcoming students from classes 1 to 12. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as students embarked on a new academic year, full of fresh aspirations. A special morning assembly was conducted to set a positive tone for the year ahead. The assembly featured motivational speeches, inspiring words of wisdom, and a vibrant cultural performance. Principal Savina Bahl introduced the new teachers to the SPS family and encouraged students to embrace challenges with determination. She emphasised the importance of discipline, perseverance, and a growth mindset in helping students navigate both academic and personal journeys.
