Veteran Bollywood actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar, renowned for his patriotic roles and affectionately known as Bharat Kumar, passed away on 4 April 2025 at the age of 87. He took his last breath in a Mumbai hospital. While his films are still cherished and remembered by all his fans, not many know about the heartfelt story he shared with his beloved partner and his strongest supporter, Shashi Goswami. Here’s a closer look at the woman, who stood through the highs and lows of Manoj Kumar and plays a pivotal role in his inspiring journey.

Born in India, Shashi Goswami first met veteran actor Manoj Kumar in Delhi, during their college days. In a 2013 interview, the actor recalled seeing Shashi for the first time at a friend’s house in Old Delhi and was immediately captivated by her presence, “God’s swear, I have never seen any girl with some bad intentions in my whole life, but there was something magical about Shashi that I couldn’t take my eyes off her face” he had said to Danik Jagran.

For a near and a half, the couple used to see each other through distance and would rarely meet. Gradually, the couple’s bond strengthened over time and started going out with friends, watched movies together. As their liking for each other developed in love, they decided to get married despite initial opposition.

After getting married, Shashi Goswami decided to stay away from the limelight. Initially, before marriage, she received an acting offer, but Manoj Kumar advised him to stay away from films, and she ended up working in radio plays.

The couple had two sons, Vishal Goswami and Kunal Goswami. Vishal worked as a film producer, while Kunal starred in a blockbuster film Kranti in 1981 and played a lead hero opposite Sridevi in Kalakar. He rose to fame with the song ‘Neele-Neele Ambar Par’ sung by Kishore Kumar but still it didn’t give a boost to his career. Kunal Goswami went on to act in several films and television shows, but failed to achieve stardom like his late father, Manoj Kumar.

Soon, he started stepping away from movies and ventured into the catering sector. Now, he is running one of the most successful catering companies and earning in crores from his well-established business.
