BSNL is working rapidly on 5G network and in connection to that a report states that DoT has allocated 5G spectrum worth Rs 61 thousand crores to BSNL. With its help, this telecom company can start 5G network soon. BSNL now has premium spectrum bands like 700 MHz and 3300 MHz (mid-band). This is needed to start 5G network. BSNL is planning to expand 5G service.
BSNL 5G plans
Minister of State for Communications Pemmasani Chandra Shekhar informed the Parliament that BSNL has acquired spectrum for 5G in 700 MHz, 3300 MHz and 26 GHz bands. Apart from this, the company has also set a target of 1 lakh 4G sites. The special thing is that these sites can be easily upgraded to 5G. By March 8, 83,993 4G sites will be developed by BSNL. So far, work has started on 74,521 sites. It will be completed soon.
Government financial help for BSNL
According to the report, the government has given money for BSNL’s capital expenditure. Apart from this, it is being ensured that the company’s work is not hampered in the future. Plans are also being made continuously for the future. There are plans to expand 5G service on a large scale. Also, more funds will be given. In February 2025, the government approved an additional Rs 6,000 crore for BSNL’s 4G expansion. This investment is part of the revival plan of BSNL and MTNL, under which Rs 3.22 lakh crore has been invested in BSNL and MTNL since 2019.
Government is helping BSNL-MTNL
BSNL, which also handles MTNL’s operations in Delhi and Mumbai, has long been struggling with a drop in the number of subscribers due to delays in 4G services. However, officials believe that the launch of 5G services will help BSNL come back to competition in the market and compete with private telecom companies. According to the government, due to these financial support packages, BSNL-MTNL has also started earning operating profit from 2020-21.
