Campus notes: Drug-free Haryana event
In line with the state-wide campaign for a drug-free Haryana, Dyal Singh College, Karnal, recently conducted an awareness programme on the effects of drug and tobacco abuse. The event was organised by the Drug and Tobacco Control Cell in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS), aiming to inspire students to become ambassadors of a healthy society. The event featured slogan-writing, essay-writing and poster-making activities. Principal Ashima Gakkhar, Nodal Officer (Drug and Tobacco Control Cell) Dr Vivek Parkash and NSS Programme Officers Shweta Yadav, Deepak Shashtry and Chanchal Gupta were among those present at the event.
Mega job fair
Yamunanagar: The Training and Employment Cell of Guru Nanak Khalsa College, under the aegis GNK Group of Institutions, recently organised a mega job fair. More than 15 companies — including Axis Bank, Utkarsh Bank, HDFC Bank, Sai Corporation, Shree Ram Finance, MMG Health Care and Bulk SMS — visited the campus to offer placement opportunities to aspiring candidates. As many as 408 students from GNK Group of Institutions and various other colleges in Yamunanagar enthusiastically participated in the job fair. Officiating Principal Dr Pratima Sharma welcomed the officials. Dr Surinder Kaur Banga, Principal, DAV College, Yamunanagar, was among those present at the event.
Blood donation camp
Sonepat: Sonepat Mayor Rajiv Jain recently inaugurated a blood donation camp organised at Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology (DCRUST), Murthal. Vice-Chancellor Shri Prakash Singh said 158 units of blood were collected during the camp. Addressing participants, Jain said donating blood not only benefitted the recipients, but also the person donating blood. Donating blood reduced the risk of heart attacks and prevented blood clotting, he added. The Vice-Chancellor said many people avoided donating blood due to the misconception that it caused weakness; however, this was not true.
Financial literacy lecture
Kaithal: The Commerce Department of Indira Gandhi (PG) Mahila Mahavidaylaya, Kaithal, organised an extension lecture on financial literacy. The event was presided by Ram Bahadur Khurania, president, governing body. The lecture aimed to provide students with essential knowledge about financial literacy. Dharmendra Kathuria, a trainer from National Centre for Financial Education (NCFE), was the keynote speaker at the event. He elaborated upon various aspects of cybercrime, including online fraud, phishing attacks and measures to ensure the security of digital transactions. Principal Dr Aarti Garg and Shweta Tanwar, evening session Principal In-Charge, were among those present at the event.
