Woman accused remanded to 2 days police custody

Keonjhar: Pramila Parida, the main accused in a case involving the cheating of lakhs of rupees through fraudulent job offers, was taken into two-day remand by the Town police Friday for further investigation. Parida, along with accomplice Bhuban Mahanta, was arrested March 26 for defrauding people in the name of job offers at the Kendujhar Medical College.

Police Friday raided Parida’s residence in Amrit Vihar, where they recovered several significant items including important papers, a bag full of applications, and a diary detailing the amounts taken from victims. Additionally, a bank locker associated with the company financing gold transactions was seized. The police also found various items including a chair and a sofa, which were purchased for setting up a Dhaba. Srikant Sahu, IIC of the Town Police Station, said that the investigation will continue.

Several documents and forms have been seized, and the police have stated that anyone involved in this fraud will be investigated. Sources indicated that following Parida’s arrest, more victims have come forward accusing her of fraud. The scale of the scam appears to be growing, with more individuals reporting the fraud daily. Some victims have shared their videos and sting operations with the police and media. Police have stated that action will be taken against those involved, including the hospital employees, once the investigation concludes. Dr Kishore Chandra Prusti, Chief District Medical Officer of Keonjhar, assured that appropriate measures will be taken following the police probe.
