NHRC directs Bhadrak SP to expedite probe, rescue missing minor

Kendrapara: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the Superintendent of Police (SP), Bhadrak, to expedite the investigation on a priority basis to rescue the missing minor child. The apex rights body further asked the Bhadrak SP to submit a status report within four weeks, failing which the commission shall be constrained to invoke coercive processes under Section 13 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993.
The NHRC passed the order while acting on a petition filed by Sagar Kumar Jena, a human rights activist. The activist, quoting reports published by various newspapers July 29, 2024, alleged in his petition that a one-and a-half-year-old boy was kidnapped by two persons in the Bhandaripokhari area of Bhadrak district. The child’s mother reportedly alleged that her son was kidnapped by one of her close relatives, Alok, who had been frequently visiting her house. She sought the intervention of the commission in the matter. The commission has asked the SP to ensure that the additional and complete report is submitted no later than May 11, 2025, for further consideration.
