It will last for about three to four months.

IGI Airport Security: To make the security check faster and more effective, state-of-the-art full body scanners are being installed at the country’s largest airport IGI. This process has been started on the basis of the guidelines of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, which aims to make the security check process easier for passengers and save time.

This technology, already being used at major international airports in the US, Canada and Australia, enables faster screening. Each scan takes only three seconds and has a maximum capacity of 1,200 scans per hour.

The process of full body scanner security check will be made effective

According to airport operations agency DIAL, the trial of the machine is being started in the initial phase. For this, four state-of-the-art scanners have been purchased for Terminal 1 and 3.

Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, Chief Executive Officer of DIAL, says that IGI Airport is committed to adopting the latest technology to enhance security and provide a comfortable experience to passengers. Full body scanners will make the security check process faster as well as effective.

Trial will start in May, SOP will be prepared based on the results

He said that the trial starting in May will last for about three to four months. After this, a committee led by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security will evaluate the results and prepare a standard operating procedure (SOP) for full implementation.

Personal image will not be stored

Unlike traditional X-ray scanners, full body scanners do not emit radiation, making them safe for all passengers including pregnant women and persons with medical implants. This scanner will detect both metallic and non-metallic threats, including explosives, which significantly improves upon traditional metal detectors.

No personal image is stored in this machine, eliminating privacy concerns. According to the information, full body scanner was tested by CISF at Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru airports in the year 2023, the positive results of which opened the way for widespread implementation of this technology.

Security check queue will be reduced at the airport

IGI Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world. This airport has been struggling with the problem of congestion and long queues in the last few years. Passengers had to wait for hours due to increased security checks especially during Independence Day, Republic Day, beginning of the year, summer vacation and festive season.

This new technology is expected to reduce the time taken in security checks significantly. DIAL says that this step is another important initiative towards the modernization of IGI Airport, which is already known for facilities like self-service check-in and baggage drop.
